This great city is noteworthy for its wonderful gothic inspired buildings and street markets; the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre are the places you must see. Traveling around Paris is relatively easy for visitors as well as locals; there is an excellent underground system called the Metro which runs regular trains into the city center and is very easy to understand.
It wouldn’t be possible to visit this city without a trip to the top of the famous steel structure known as the Eiffel Tower; there are only a few places in the city where it isn’t visible. In the evening the illumination means it can be seen for many miles; taking a tour at the same time will teach you much more about this remarkable structure.
The famous 19th century edifice built on Napoleons instructions, the Arc de Triomphe, is also in Paris. The names of his generals engraved upon it to honor them and his troops. Although not generally well known, the Arc had an observatory installed after it was constructed to provide views of neighboring areas; it stands in the place where the city’s main avenues begin including the Champs Elysees. Make sure you take the time to visit the top as the view is spectacular.
After your visit to the Arc de Triomphe you should take time for a walk along the Champs Elysees is essential when you visit Paris; it will present you with many famous designer shops and good restaurants or if you are on a budget there is even McDonalds. This famous avenue is known as a more upmarket and busy region of the city. Here you will also find many of the five star Paris hotels. If they are out of your price range many more affordable hotels can be found not too far away. I found a very reasonable hotel just near the Notre Dame Cathedral.
If you are an art lover, or not you most likely will enjoy the Louvre, an absolutely must see museum. You can allow a day or two to view its in excess of 300,000 pieces of art. It is a collection which cannot be given justice if seen in a single visit. Visitors on short stays in Paris could easily be overwhelmed; some of the most important art collections in the world are here including Leonardo da Vinci’s world famous Mona Lisa. The charisma of Paris has always made it a magnetic destination for many famous or aspiring artist, some of these include Monet and Picasso who very fortunately left some of their work here for all to enjoy.
