A high heart rate is associated with the potential for sudden death. Lowering the heart rate can lower the risk of sudden death from heart failure. There is a direct correlation between the amount of Omega 3 fatty acids eaten in fish or fish oil products and a lowering of the heart rate.
A study was conducted in France and Ireland which examined the fish consumption of over nine thousand, seven hundred men between the ages of fifty and fifty nine who had no diagnosed heart disease. The study lasted three years.
The weekly consumption of fish by these men was broken into four categories:
- Men who at fish less than once a week
- Men who ate fish once a week
- Men who ate fish twice a week
- Men who ate fish more than twice a week
- The results were adjusted for various factors including age, physical activity, smoking habits, alcohol consumption, educational level and body mass index.
The finding of the study was that heart rate was lower and remained lower in men who ate more fish per week.
Fish are an excellent source of the Omega 3 fatty acids which are associated with heart health amongst other benefits. Cold water oily fish such as salmon, sardines, mackerel and tuna are known for their high levels of Omega 3 rich fish oil. These oils accumulate in the bodies of the fish from the natural algae in their environment.
As shown above eating more of these fish can lower the heart rate and improve heart health. Where there is a shortage of fish or there is no desire to increase the weekly consumption of fish Omega 3 rich fish oil capsules are an excellent alternative.
Omega 3 fish oil supplementary capsules are manufactured to be free of pollutants such as heavy metals and mercury. They are manufactured to very high standards and are pure and concentrated.
