No matter how healthy you are, you have probably thought “I need to be healthier” at least once in your life. We have all felt, at least once or twice, like we need to eat better, choose wise and work out more often. The important thing is that you take action when you think these things. If you really do want to get healthy you need to take steps to make that happen. Don’t forget that your body is not the only thing you need to worry about if you truly want to get fit: the brain is involved as well. With that said, here are some things that you can do to build your fitness levels.
Make good lifestyle choices. You should not smoke. Pare down your booze. Drinking and smoking are nasty habits by themselves but if you keep them up while you try to get healthier you won’t get anywhere. Smoking wreaks havoc on your lungs and impedes your ability to properly exercise each day. Not only will drinking keep your energy levels low, it is terrible for your liver.
Besides that, drinks made with alcohol are packed with calories. Just working off the calories you consume from alcohol could take up your whole workout! Why get in your own way?
Fat does not weigh as much as muscle. If your main goal is to lose weight it is important to remember this fact.
It is entirely possible to lose inches without losing a single pound–especially when you exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet. This happens because while you work to increase your strength you also work to decrease the size of your fat cells. Take your measurements regularly as you work to get fit. You might find that the numbers on your scale stay the same but the numbers on your clothing shrink. Keep these facts in mind so that you don’t let yourself get discouraged or disappointed by the apparent lack of success after all of your hard work.
Get together with your friends and get fit. Even if each person in your group is new to working out, you can all work together to keep each other in check while you work at getting healthier. Working toward fitness with your friends is a lot more fun than working toward fitness all by yourself. This also puts you in a group of people who will rally around you if you try to slack off or start to stress out. Having someone to keep you focused and on track is very important. Getting fit and following a fitness routine is a lot easier when you do it with friends. Fitness is a total mind and body state of being. You can go and work out every day but if you don’t also make some healthy choices in other areas of your life you won’t get very fit at all. To really get fit you need to consume a healthy and nutritious diet and make healthier lifestyle decisions. In addition to caring for your mind and soul, care for your body with regular exercise. Work with an experienced fitness expert, use your brain and practice some common sense: eventually you will be fit as a fiddle.
