Searching for your dream job? But afraid of attending the interview or thinking how to crack the job interview. Don’t worry, it’s natural to get scared about a job interview. If you make it, it resulted in a job offer and a handsome salary. If not, you will lose a good opportunity. To overcome this situation, first of all, we need to understand what is a job interview.

A job interview is a meeting between the hiring employer and an applicant, where the applicant is judged on various parameters to check whether he is fit for the job role or not. Everybody gets the jitters when it comes to attend an interview, especially, when you are having a very limited interview experience. This anxiety is very common and research shows that approx., 80% of the applicants suffer from interview anxiety. Therefore, you must keep in mind some important pointers whenever you get any face to face interview call.

Research about the Company: Before attending any interview, it’s very important to know about the company. Always check the company website, company history, their nature of business, etc. So that, you will get prepare to answer the questions such as What you know about our company? What we do? etc.

Know the Job Requirements: It’s very important to know what job role is the company looking for and whether you are fit for this role or not. Always check the job description and required skills before attending any interview, so that, you can prepare yourself accordingly and have confidence in you.

Prepare a Questions & Answers List: After checking the job description, it’s helpful to prepare a list of probable interview questions and answers related to that particular profile. For this, you can take the help of your parents, friend or you can search on the internet also. If you do this exercise, you will be able to cover at least 70-80% of the questions, which can be asked in the interview.

Prepare the Documents Folder: Before appearing for the interview, prepare a folder with all necessary documents required at the time of interview. Always keep 2-3 copies of your resume and a passport size photograph too. If possible, keep the copies of certificates or appreciation letter you have received in your previous organization or in an academic career.

Maintain your Body Language: Your body language says a lot about you. While attending an interview, it’s important to maintain your body posture, facial expressions, hand movements, etc. Be mindful, sit straight, make an eye contact with the interviewer, and most importantly manage your facial expressions.

Prepare the Introductory Speech: Prepare and practice your introduction. Whenever the interviewer asks you about yourself, you should take at least 1-2 minutes to answer it. It should include all start from your background, education, professional experience, etc. Interviewer sometimes judge candidates verbal communication skills also while asking this question.

Show Confidence: Listen carefully and be confident in your answers. Don’t get confused or make blind guesses. Always give examples with your answers which shows that you are fit for the job role.

Be Honest: Always be honest during interviews. Never lie anything in the interview. If you don’t know any answer, just say – I don’t know. The person who is taking the interview is more experienced, and he can easily judge that you are giving false statements. So, always be honest and flexible in your approach.

Never make Negative Statement about your Past Employer: It’s a very important point to emphasize. Never utter a single negative word about your previous employers, whether you have left them on a good note or bad. Always praise your previous organization and management.

Do you want to ask anything? Always say YES, whenever you have been asked this question. It shows your confidence. You can ask some basic information related to the company such as their work culture, growth opportunities, etc.

Take Interviewers Feedback: At the end of the interview, always ask the interviewer feedback. Always ask this question, whether your interviews go fine or not. It always gives a positive impression about the candidate.

These are very basic points you should follow prior and during the interview session. Many times candidates make very small mistakes such as answering in Yes or No only or getting nervous while interviewing. Following these points strictly can increase the chances of cracking the interview easily and create confidence and positivity in you. The more effort you put, the more success you will see in getting your dream job easily.
