The river is also used for transportation and every day thousands of people travel to work by boats on the Chao Phraya River. The city occasionally gets flooded by the waters of the Chao Phraya river, and sometimes also by the heavy rains. The city is only 2 meters above the sea level, so flooding is a danger, but big floods like in 2011 (the inner city wasn’t flooded) don’t happen often.
The main commercial centers of the city where the most businesses and offices are located are Silom – Sathorn roads area and the Sukhumvit area. In those places there are also many hotels and you can always see many foreigners who live in Bangkok in those areas.
